It goes about as well as you’d expect. Which is to say – terribly, in all the right ways. Collapsing drywall, a town full of gossips who’ve already decided how this ends, a best friend named Rupert who treats chaos like a personal hobby, and a candy shop that somehow becomes the one place either of them actually feels like themselves. The rules get broken the way rules in this genre always get broken – slowly, then all at once, then completely.
By the time the shop finally reopens, the real question isn’t whether Renley gets her shot at proving herself. It’s whether either of them can walk away from this summer without losing the one thing that turned out to be real.
